Dimensions of Work
Recognition
Recognition can be expressed in various ways – through praise, prestige, reward, or participation. Communication structures before, during, and after work signal to the working person that their effort is noticed and appreciated. Likewise, self-recognition and appreciation can be an important part of recognition.
Reward
Character
Mutual recognition
(Expression of) Appreciation
Recognition can come from colleagues, clients, managers, family members, or wider society. Calling something ‘work’ is the first step to recognising an activity; additionally, many people want the product of their work to be seen as valuable. They want to be seen themselves as humans with certain rights and needs.
"You’re really good at this!"
"I want to show my appreciation!"
"You really helped me!"
"You can take a day off!"
"What is your opinion?"
