Dimensions of Work
Scope
The scope of a work activity describes the role it occupies within the working person’s life. Work can significantly impact someone’s roles or relationships. Other activities, however, have little influence on one’s identity or other areas of life. More time invested does not necessarily imply a more important function in one’s life.

The right scope?
Time as well as identity can be used as measurements of an activity's scope. For some people, their personal identity is tied closely to their employment. Others may spend the same amount of time in their job but find meaning and identity in work activities they engage in outside of formal work.

Understanding work quality
Dimensions of Work
Research shows that not just the surrounding conditions matter when evaluating whether people experience higher or lower quality of work. Here you can find information and illustrations on the diverse aspects that matter for work quality. We have further developed a tool based on this model which allows you to explore and reflect on your own work quality. This tool is suitable for both paid and unpaid activities – so you don’t have to be in employment to give it a try.
